Helmut Berger Life And Career

Berger was born in the Austrian resort town of Bad Ischl to a family of hotel owners. Despite having little interest in either cooking or the hospitality sector, he decided to seek training and work in those fields after earning his Matura. When he turned eighteen, he uprooted his entire life and headed to London. Aside from working odd jobs, he also took acting training.

He eventually settled in Italy. Helmut Berger moved to Rome after finishing his Italian language studies at the Università per Stranieri in Perugia. Berger’s big break happened because of Visconti. He had a small role in Visconti’s The Damned (1969).

This movie catapulted him to stardom and earned him critical accolades. The picture’s success resulted in a nomination for him for a Golden Globe. Helmut Berger received numerous employment offers almost immediately.

But after Visconti passed away in 1976, the actor’s star fell precipitously. The 78-year-old man has stated that Visconti was the single most important figure in his professional development. He eventually found success on television with roles like that of Peter De Vilbis on Dynasty, the dishonest fiance of Fallon Carrington.

He also continued to focus on European productions, such as his appearance as Frederick Keinszig in The Godfather: Part III. And in 2014, he appeared in a movie about the life and career of fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent. Liberté, directed by Albert Serra and starring Helmut Berger, was Berger’s last film. He plays an aristocrat from the 18th century who aspires to have a hedonistic nocturnal fling.
